Looking ahead

It’s been quite some time since I’ve written. Lots of things going on, what with traveling home for the holidays, Dan visiting for a week as soon as I got back, and work being as busy as ever.

I really enjoyed my time at home with my parents. It’s always nice to just relax with them and watch movies and TV and go out to dinner and stuff and just purely relax. My dad and I had a small breakthrough of sorts, and he helped me to realize that I have some things to figure out emotionally before it’s too late. He’s been going through so much change in his life lately, with his career and as a person. It’s really quite a relief to know that he understands some of my issues and that he is able to help me get through them.

At work, it’s recently been announced that yet another supervisor of mine is leaving the company. It’s kind of funny how in less than a year, my immediate supervisor, two team members and now my one-up supervisor have all left. And this being smack in the middle of my “team” still being developed and expanded. As always, I think about what I want for me in my career, and that is not only the type of work I’m doing, but the people that I work with and the environment I’m in. Without too much detail, I’ll just say that I’m fully exploring my options and figuring out what’s best for me in coming months.

In general, I think surrounding yourself with people that motivate you and support you is important, not just at work, but at home, in social circles and other places. In the last year since I’ve moved out to DC, I’ve now had to live with two different people that are not the easiest roommates in the world, and the current one is certainly not supportive, considerate or respectful. Try as I may to ignore the negativity and to think about the other things going on in my life, we all know it’s hard to ignore someone that shares a roof with you. But I’m going to try for the next 7 months to look past all of it and focus on the good things in life. It’s just another test.

For now, here are some things I’m looking forward to this year:
-my cousin’s wedding , and one of my best friend’s wedding
-my surprise trip with Dan in March
-my trip to New Orleans in March for a work conference (and I get to see some family)
-hopefully seeing my parents again before the holidays in the winter
-moving in August

What are you looking forward to this year?
